A 50-bed modern ICU unit has been formally inaugurated at Kurmitola General Hospital in the capital. This unit was inaugurated on Tuesday (May 5, 2026) morning by Dr. Zubaida Rahman.
It was informed at the inauguration ceremony that along with the new ICU unit, a pathology pavilion and a gastroliver center have also been set up in the hospital. This initiative has been taken with the aim of providing improved healthcare at the doorsteps of the common people by expanding modern medical facilities.

Speakers at the ceremony said that such projects will play an important role in ensuring equality in healthcare and making the country’s medical system more modern and strong.
This is mentioned as part of the implementation of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s election promise for Dhaka-17 constituency.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sakhawat Hossain Bakul, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapnan, along with the hospital’s director, doctors, and officials and employees, were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
