Online Desk:

Ogushi Masaki, State Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan, held a meeting with Sheikh Bashiruddin, Honorable Adviser to the Ministry of Commerce, Textiles and Jute and Civil Aviation and Tourism of the Interim Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

The meeting was held at the Japan Pavilion of the “World Expo 2025” venue on Sunday (11 May 2025) afternoon. The meeting discussed bilateral trade and investment prospects and areas of cooperation in detail.

The Commerce Adviser said that Bangladesh is interested in deepening and strengthening friendly relations with Japan. The fifth round of negotiations for the signing of the Economic Partnership Agreement (APA) to increase bilateral trade has already been concluded fruitfully.

The Japanese State Minister said that the Japanese government is committed to strengthening commercial relations with Bangladesh. The differences between the two countries in the implementation of the Economic Partnership Agreement will be resolved through discussions and effective steps will be taken to implement it as soon as possible.

Sheikh Bashiruddin said that a large part of the total population of Bangladesh is young, aged between 16-30 years. Steps are being taken to transform them into skilled and qualified manpower through training and send them to the Japanese labor market. As part of this, Japanese language training has been arranged at technical training centers.

At this time, he sought the cooperation of the Japanese government in creating more technical training centers in Bangladesh and creating opportunities for providing international-standard training.

The Commerce Adviser said that Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation has already invested in a fertilizer factory in Bangladesh, which is important for Bangladesh.

At this time, he called on the Japanese government and private institutions to come forward for more Japanese investment in Bangladesh.

Japanese State Minister Ogushi Masaki said that Japan is in dire need of skilled workers. If Bangladesh’s skilled manpower comes to the labor market of this country, a new dimension of trade can be opened, which will be good for both countries. At this time, he assured Japan’s overall cooperation in creating skilled manpower.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Md. Daud Ali, Director of Southwest Asia Affairs of Japan’s Trade Policy Bureau Shimano Toshiyuki, Director of Economic Partnership Division of Trade Policy Bureau Uchino Hiroto and Bangladesh Commercial Counselor to Japan Morarji Desai Barman and other officials of the Bangladesh Embassy were present at the meeting.
