Advisor to the Prime Minister and spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, Mahdi Amin, said that the government elected by the people’s vote has set a unique example of humane and people-oriented politics in the last 100 days. He said that after a long period of misrule and the bloody July uprising, the country is moving forward on the path of people’s empowerment under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman after overcoming a deep crisis.
He said these things at a press conference organized on Monday (May 25, 2026) at 3 pm at the ‘Karbi’ Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon in the capital to mark the completion of the government’s 100 days. The press conference was organized by the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.
Mahdi Amin said that in the 13th National Parliament election on February 12 this year, BNP won an absolute majority and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman was sworn in as the Prime Minister on February 17. Since the formation of the government, swift and effective steps have been taken to implement priority-based election promises. To this end, each ministry has been instructed to formulate a 180-day action plan.
He said that women-centric social security programs have been strengthened by launching the ‘Family Card’ in the first month of the government. In addition, decisions have been taken to introduce honorarium for imams, muezzins, khatibs and other religious leaders, withdraw additional monthly charges for prepaid electricity meters, and waive off agricultural loans of up to Tk 10,000 for small farmers, including interest.
Mahdi Amin said that agricultural management has been brought under the digital framework by launching the ‘Farmer Card’. The possibility of long-term positive changes in agriculture, irrigation and water management has been created by implementing the canal digging program across the country. At the same time, initiatives have been taken to implement the Padma Barrage Project to create potential in agriculture and environmental management in the southwestern region.
He said that the government is working to ensure maximum freedom of the media and journalists. However, he also commented that spreading propaganda and hatred in the name of freedom of speech is contrary to the spirit of the mass uprising.
The spokesperson said that 60 important decisions were taken in 10 cabinet meetings from February 17 to May 24. Out of these, 37 have already been implemented and the rest are under implementation.
Mahdi Amin also said that the government is coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure the payment of salaries and allowances and Eid bonuses to workers ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. He said that special trains and boat services have been launched to ensure smooth Eid travel. Separate compartments have been kept in trains to ensure safe travel for women and a special monitoring cell has been formed seven days before Eid.
He also said that necessary instructions have been given for the prompt removal of sacrificial animal waste, ensuring fair price of skins and preservation. In addition, it has been possible to reduce air fares for Hajj pilgrims.
Mahdi Amin said that preparations have begun for the implementation of the economic corridor from Teknaf to Tentulia. Work on the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is progressing with the aim of inauguration by December 16.
Highlighting various initiatives for the youth, he said that bank guarantee facilities for higher education abroad have been expanded, high-speed free Wi-Fi has been introduced at airports and trains, and ‘Sports’ and ‘New Bud’ programs have been started.
Mentioning various initiatives of the government in the health sector, Mahdi Amin said that almost 100 percent of children have been brought under vaccination by introducing measles vaccine. In addition, initiatives have been taken to increase maternity leave and ensure 5 percent allocation of GDP to the health sector in phases.
Referring to the murder of child Ramisa at the press conference, he said that the Prime Minister, Home Minister and Law Minister have stood by the victim’s family and expressed their determination to ensure speedy justice. A charge sheet has already been filed in the incident.
He also mentioned the execution of a convict in Meherpur for raping a 9-year-old child within 29 working days as a rare example of ensuring speedy justice.
Highlighting the humanitarian aspect of the Prime Minister, Mahdi Amin said that now the victims do not go to the Prime Minister, but the Prime Minister is reaching the doors of the people. He is standing by the people’s suffering and extending a hand of sympathy.
He also said that an initiative has been taken to add the phrase ‘except Israel’ to the Bangladeshi passport again. At the same time, a goal has been set to develop Bangladesh into a trillion-dollar economy by 2034.
Mahdi Amin said that the immovable assets of S Alam Group worth Tk 4,264 crore have been seized. Agreements have also been signed with various countries to return money laundered abroad.
He said that the highest remittances came in the country’s history last month and the monthly remittances have reached about $3.75 billion. In addition, initiatives have been taken to introduce expatriate cards.
He also said that initiatives have been taken to provide state identity cards to about two lakh freelancers, reopen closed factories and form a special fund of Tk 60,000 crore to create employment.
At the beginning of the press conference, Mahdi Amin extended advance greetings on the holy Eid-ul-Azha. Later, after completing his written speech, he answered various questions from journalists.
