A high-level Italian business delegation has arrived in Bangladesh to increase cooperation in innovation, technology and sustainable development in Bangladesh’s textile industry. The delegation is led by Italian Regional Trade Commissioner Antonietta Baccarini and officials from the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) and ACIMIT.
As part of the visit, an inaugural session, technology presentations, business bilateral (B2B) meetings and visits to various factories in Dhaka and Chittagong have been organized in Dhaka. The program is being supported by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Italy’s Honorary Consul Mr. Salman Ispahani is assisting in organizing the visit.
In the opening session of the event, Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alessandro highlighted the contribution of Italian companies in the birth and development of the Bangladesh textile industry. He said that, working with local partners in Bangladesh, Italian companies are committed to providing the modern technologies needed to meet sustainable production, supply chain challenges and changing global market demands.
Italian Trade Commissioner Antonietta Baccarini said that Italy is recognized as a symbol of excellence worldwide in the textile machinery industry. Italian-made machinery is appreciated worldwide for its efficiency, reliability and innovative capacity. “We don’t just manufacture machines; we build the future of the global textile industry,” she said.
It is known that in 2025, Italy exported textile machinery worth about 71 million euros to Bangladesh. On the other hand, there are more than 300 companies under the ACIMIT umbrella, whose annual exports amount to about 1.7 billion euros.
