Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC and MasterCard have jointly inaugurated a fully cashless campus at Chittagong University. Launched as part of Bangladesh Bank’s ‘Cashless Bangladesh’ initiative, this initiative will enable students, teachers and visitors to make cashless transactions throughout the university campus. This will significantly reduce the dependency on cash and accelerate the spread of smart financial services.
As part of this initiative, Bangla QR has been added to Chittagong University for accepting payments. As a result, digital transactions will be possible at all places – cafeterias, bookstores, administrative offices and train stations. In addition, an exclusive debit card specially designed for students has been launched, which will help them complete their daily financial activities more easily and securely. This card, jointly branded by Islami Bank and MasterCard, will be provided free of charge to students.
The seminar was held at the Marine Sciences and Fisheries Faculty Auditorium of Chittagong University with Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University Dr. Muhammad Yahya Akhtar as the chief guest. Under the chairmanship of Rafeza Akhter Kanta, Director of Payment Systems Department of Bangladesh Bank, Bangladesh Bank Executive Director Md. Maqbul Hossain was present as the guest of honor and Islami Bank Additional Managing Director Md. Altaf Hussain, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of Chittagong University Professor Dr. Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan, Director of Bangladesh Bank Md. Arifuzzaman were present as special guests.
The program featured a video presentation of the Governor’s welcome speech and a presentation on the “Cashless Bangladesh” initiative by Mohammad Moin Uddin, Joint Director of Payment Systems Department of Bangladesh Bank. Zubair Hossain, Head of Retail and Commerce at MasterCard, along with executives and officials of Bangladesh Bank, university teachers, officials, employees and students, and senior officials of Islami Bank and MasterCard were present at the event.
