Interim government calls for vigilance against violence

The interim government has called on all citizens of Bangladesh to take a firm stand and be vigilant against the violence perpetrated by a few isolated extremist groups. The government has said that any act of violence, intimidation, arson and destruction of life and property is strongly and unequivocally condemnable.

In a statement on Friday (December 19, 2025), the government said that Bangladesh is moving forward with a historic democratic transformation at this critical time in the country’s history. In such a situation, this progress will not be allowed to be disrupted by a few troublemakers.

The statement said that the upcoming elections and referendum are not just political programs, but a serious national commitment. This commitment is inextricably linked to the sacrifice of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi. To pay due respect to his memory, restraint, responsibility and steadfastness in rejecting hatred must be maintained.

Expressing deep regret over the recent attacks on journalists of The Daily Star, Prothom Alo and New Age, the government said that attacks on journalists are attacks on the truth. The statement said that the nation has witnessed the courage and tolerance of journalists even in the face of terrorism and violence. The government has assured to ensure full justice to the journalists in this incident.

In addition, strongly condemning the beating to death of a Hindu man in Mymensingh, the statement said that such violence has no place in the new Bangladesh. No one involved in this brutal crime will be spared.

In the final part of the statement, the interim government called on every citizen of the country to show due respect to Shaheed Hadi by rejecting and resisting violence, incitement and hatred at this critical moment.
