Instructions to take possession of allotted government houses within 10 days Ministry of Housing and Public Works

The vacant houses allotted to government officials and employees must be taken possession within 10 days. With this instruction, a letter has been sent recently from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works to all the secretaries, senior secretaries, divisional commissioners and other concerned persons.

Various categories of government houses/houses under the control of the Directorate of Government Housing, Dhaka are allotted to various officials and employees working in Dhaka city subject to certain conditions. According to the conditions mentioned in the allotment letter, there is an obligation to take possession of the house within 10 (ten) days of the vacating of the house. But many times, some of the allotted officials and employees do not take possession of the house even though the house is vacant. Moreover, many do not take possession of the house even though the house is vacant and after a long time, instead of taking possession of the house, they apply for another house instead of the allotted house or apply for cancellation of the allotment of the house.

Due to the fact that the house remains vacant for a long time, on the one hand, the government is deprived of revenue collection, on the other hand, due to the retention of the house, it is not possible to provide housing to others.

In the interest of proper management of government housing and collection of government revenue, the officers and employees who have been allotted houses/houses under the control of the Government Housing Directorate should, after receiving the allocation, take possession of the house within 10 (ten) days of its vacating as per the conditions of the allocation letter or if they are not willing to take possession, immediately inform the Housing Directorate.
