Desk Report:
Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat has announced that steps will be taken to reduce the fees associated with the registration process for tour operators and tour guides, aiming to simplify the procedure.
He stated that a collaborative effort and effective partnership between the public and private sectors are essential for the sustainable development and modernization of Bangladesh’s tourism industry, as well as for strengthening its competitive position on the international stage. To this end, the government is working on developing tourism infrastructure, formulating investment-friendly policies, expanding the use of technology, and enhancing the quality of tourism services.
He made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the Bangladesh Travel and Tourism Fair (BTTF) 2026, held on Saturday (October 31) at the Crowne Plaza, near the airport in Dhaka.
The Minister noted that this year’s fair—themed “AI-Powered Tourism, Sustainable Destinations”—is highly timely given the current global context. The tourism industry is no longer limited to mere travel and leisure; it has become a vital driver for economic growth, job creation, cultural exchange, and the development of international relations.
He emphasized that the effective application of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and digital platforms can make tourism management simpler, faster, and more efficient. Technology must be increasingly utilized to manage tourism destinations, ensure tourist safety, handle waste, preserve the environment, and provide emergency services. Such measures will not only improve the experience for tourists but also enhance transparency, operational efficiency, and the sector’s international competitiveness.
Welcoming international partners, the Minister affirmed that the Government of Bangladesh is committed to strengthening cooperation within the global tourism sector. Toward this goal, initiatives have been launched to develop the nation’s aviation infrastructure, modernize digital services, and ensure safe, seamless travel experiences for international tourists. He invited foreign investors and stakeholders in the tourism industry to invest in Bangladesh’s tourism sector and to experience the country’s natural beauty and the hospitality of its people.
The Minister stated that the government is currently working on formulating a comprehensive tourism master plan. This master plan incorporates 1,498 tourism attractions, spanning various categories and characteristics. There are plans to develop these sites in phases through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). To this end, the government is in the process of drafting investment-friendly policies for private investors and tourism industry stakeholders. He emphasized that private sector investment and active participation are essential for the sustainable development of the tourism sector.
Regarding the simplification of the registration process for tour operators, the Minister assured that the government would give serious consideration to the recommendations and proposals put forward by the operators concerning amendments to existing registration regulations. Initiatives will be taken to reduce relevant fees to streamline the registration process. The government is committed to taking necessary steps to facilitate the professional activities of tour operators—while safeguarding national interests—and to foster the growth of the tourism industry.
On the matter of providing special incentives for income earned by tour operators from abroad, the Minister stated that the issue would be presented to relevant forums, including the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Planning. Given the potential for generating foreign currency in this sector, steps will be taken to review existing policies.
The Minister further mentioned that preparations for the inauguration of the Cox’s Bazar International Airport are underway, with the launch planned for next month. Additionally, under the initiative of the Bangladesh Tourism Corporation, preparations are being made to host a three-month-long ‘Cox’s Bazar Tourism Carnival,’ beginning this November. These initiatives will play a key role in showcasing Bangladesh’s tourism potential on an international stage and establishing Cox’s Bazar as an even more compelling tourist destination.
The Minister stated that the government’s goal is to transform Bangladesh’s tourism industry into a safe, sustainable, and modern sector that meets international standards. Achieving this objective requires mutual cooperation, partnership, and a shared commitment between the public and private sectors. Through collective effort, it is possible to turn the immense potential of Bangladesh’s tourism industry into reality.
She called upon all stakeholders to work together for the development of the country’s tourism sector.
The event was attended by Dr. Nurunnahar Chowdhury, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, along with other representatives from the ministry and the tourism sector.
