India will always support a democratic and stable Bangladesh: High Commissioner Pranay Verma

Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pranay Kumar Verma said that New Delhi has always supported a democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh and this support will continue in the future.

He said this at an iftar program organized at a hotel in the capital on Saturday (March 7, 2026). Various government ministers, diplomats and eminent citizens were present at the program.

High Commissioner Pranay Verma emphasized the deep friendly relations between India and Bangladesh and the long-standing historical bonds between the people of the two countries. He said that today’s event is a reflection of the strong friendship and close social and family ties between the people of the two neighboring countries.

He also said that India and Bangladesh have a rich history and deep cultural ties. The indelible memory of the joint sacrifices of the people of the two countries in the Liberation War of Bangladesh still unites the two nations.

The event was attended by Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Afroza Khanam Rita and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam, along with other dignitaries from various levels of government.

Verma said that the presence of distinguished guests at the Iftar event reaffirmed the joint commitment of India and Bangladesh to further strengthen bilateral friendship and cooperation.

He noted that as two vibrant and progressive societies, India and Bangladesh stand on the threshold of a promising future based on shared prosperity and regional cooperation.

The High Commissioner extended his greetings to the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan and said that this holy month brings peace, prosperity and well-being. He said that the month of Ramadan is a special time of moderation, compassion and generosity.
