India has announced the re-introduction of tourist visas for Bangladeshi citizens after almost two years. The newly appointed High Commissioner of India, Dinesh Trivedi, made the announcement by directly visiting the Indian Visa Application Center (Visa Center) after presenting his credentials to the President in Dhaka on Thursday (June 25, 2026).
Meanwhile, with the appointment of Dinesh Trivedi, a new precedent has been set in India’s diplomatic representation in Bangladesh. In place of a professional diplomat, an active politician has been appointed as the High Commissioner and has also been given the rank of minister.
