Diplomatic Desk:
The Indian government has granted the status of a Union Cabinet Minister to the new Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi. However, it has been informed that this status will be applicable only for ceremonial and protocol-related activities.
This information was given in an office memorandum issued by the Department of Public Safety, Union Home Ministry, on Wednesday (June 24, 2026).
The memorandum said that without formally revising India’s Table of Presidency, the status of a Union Cabinet Minister has been given to Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Shri Dinesh Trivedi.
It further mentioned that this decision will be effective only for ceremonial events, state protocol and related functions. It will not be considered as a permanent revision of the Table of Presidency.
The notification, signed by Kamlesh Ravidas, Under Secretary to the Central Government of India, said that the granting of this special status to the High Commissioner will ensure protocol facilities in conducting state formalities and diplomatic activities.
