A public awareness meeting was held on Sunday (May 24, 2026) at Kharajora in Kaliakoir, Gazipur to prevent road accidents and ensure a safe Eid journey. Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Sheikh Rabiul Alam was present as the chief guest at the meeting.

Speaking as the chief guest, the minister said, “If the Eid journey is safe, smooth and free from traffic jams, that is the biggest Eid joy for us.” He said that in view of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, the government is working with utmost importance to make people’s travel by road comfortable and safe across the country. To this end, coordination meetings and monitoring activities are being conducted regularly with the concerned stakeholders.

The minister said that the government’s initiatives alone are not enough to reduce road accidents; Transport owners, workers, law enforcement agencies, local administration and the general public must collectively play a responsible role. He told transport owners and labor leaders, “You must ensure an orderly and smooth Eid journey in these areas including Bypail, Elenga, Chandra.”
The minister also said that traffic jams cannot be created by setting up temporary bus counters on the side of the highway and buses must be parked randomly on the road to prevent traffic. Unfit vehicles cannot be placed on the road in any way and a strict stance will be taken against charging excessive fares, he said.
Sheikh Rabiul Alam said that the government is sincere about the various reasonable demands of the transport sector. However, ensuring the quality of passenger service and reducing the suffering of the people is the biggest priority now. He expressed hope that this year’s Eid journey will be comfortable, safe and free from traffic jams with the joint efforts of the highway police, local administration, transport owners and workers and all concerned.
State Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Railways Habibur Rashid, Member of Parliament from Pabna-5 constituency Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas MP, Member of Parliament from Gazipur-1 constituency Md. Mojibur Rahman MP and Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Department Dr. Mohammad Ziaul Haque were present as special guests at the event.
Leaders of Transport Owners Association and Workers Association, senior government officials and journalists from print and electronic media were also present at the meeting.
The meeting was organized by the District Administration, Gazipur and BRTA, Gazipur Circle. The event was presided over by Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan.
