House rent cannot be increased before 2 years: DNCC

Online Desk:

Although there is a tendency to increase house rent at the beginning of every year in Dhaka city, this time the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has banned it from following that path. According to the new guidelines, house rent cannot be increased before two years under any circumstances.

DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz made this announcement at a press conference on ‘Publication of Dhaka House Rent Guidelines’ at Gulshan-2 Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday (January 20).

He said that the practice of increasing rent as soon as January comes should be stopped. The time for increasing house rent will be in June-July, in line with the fiscal year. He also said that the city corporation has to pay tax based on house rent. Therefore, the rate at which tax is paid, the rate at which the rent is determined and increased should be taken into account.

The 16-point guidelines formulated by DNCC to ensure the rights of tenants according to the House Rent Control Act, 1991 were highlighted at the press conference.
