The government has set the price of sacrificial animal skins. This year, the minimum price of salted cow skin has been set at Tk 1,150 per piece. However, this price will be Tk 1,350 in Dhaka. This year, in addition to the price per square foot of skin, the government has set the minimum price for small cattle.
Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin told reporters at a press briefing organized at the conference room of the Ministry of Commerce on Sunday (May 25, 2025) at noon on the price of sacrificial animal skins.
The advisor said that the price of salted cow skins per square foot in Dhaka has been set at Tk 60 to 65 and outside Dhaka at Tk 55 to 60.
In addition, the purchase price of goat skins has been set at Tk 22 to 27 per square foot and the price of goat skins at Tk 20 to 22. He said that if there is no demand for raw hides in the country, the leather can be exported if necessary, and that the restrictions on leather exports will be relaxed for three months.
Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin said that leather will not be allowed to enter Dhaka for 10 days of Eid al-Adha and said that free salt will be provided throughout the country to make leather suitable for preservation at the local level.
He said, we have created two information films, which will be shown throughout the country. In the documentary, we will try to teach how to preserve and process leather. In addition, we have trained 86,000 butchers. In this regard, the Ministry of Environment, Fisheries and Livestock has all cooperated with us.
Sheikh Bashiruddin said, since we are providing free salt, training and taking into account all the labor costs involved in salting leather, the price of leather has been determined this time. The price that has been determined this time is reasonable.
