German Ambassador meets Commerce Minister to boost bilateral trade and investment

German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Rüdiger Lotz held a separate meeting with Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir.

The meeting, held at the Commerce Minister’s office at the Secretariat on Sunday (April 12, 2026) afternoon, discussed various aspects of bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation in detail.

The Commerce Minister said that Europe is a major destination for Bangladesh’s export products and both countries can benefit from increasing trade cooperation. He mentioned that there are some non-tariff barriers in trade with European Union countries, which the government has already taken initiatives to remove.

He called on Germany to invest in Bangladesh’s light engineering, textile and leather sectors. At the same time, he also highlighted various initiatives of the government to create an investment-friendly environment in the country.

German Ambassador Dr. Rudiger Lotz said that Germany is interested in further expanding trade relations with Bangladesh. He expressed his interest in working together in skill development and potential sectors. He also emphasized on ensuring a level playing field in trade and commerce.

Additional Secretary (Export) of the Ministry of Commerce Md. Abdur Rahim Khan was present in the meeting.
