French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean-Marc Serre-Charle called on Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at his office in the ministry in Dhaka on Sunday (April 5, 2026). During this, detailed discussions were held on further expansion of existing bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and France and progress of ongoing development projects.
During the meeting, the Local Government Minister said that France is an important development partner of Bangladesh. He expressed hope that the scope of cooperation between the two countries will expand further in the future. He especially emphasized on increasing partnership in the sectors of rural development, infrastructure and rural communication development.
The Minister also said that France can provide effective assistance to Bangladesh in increasing interconnection between the backward districts of the country. During this time, he highlighted various problems and development needs of the backward regions before the Ambassador.
On the other hand, French Ambassador Jean-Marc Serre-Charle highly appreciated the existing cooperative relations with Bangladesh. He said that France is interested in expanding this relationship further and wants to be a partner in Bangladesh’s development journey. He expressed optimism about strengthening cooperation in the development of rural communication systems and safe water supply sectors in particular.
Secretary of the Local Government Division Md. Shahidul Hasan and Secretary of the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Mohang Shawkat Rashid Chowdhury, along with senior officials of the ministry and heads of the concerned departments were present at the time.
