France advances to last 16 with Mbappe’s brace

Sports Desk:

A brilliant brace from Kylian Mbappe and a goal from Bradley Barcola helped France secure a 3-0 win over Sweden. Michael Oliseh assisted two of France’s three goals in the match at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Tuesday (June 30, 2026). France’s opponent in the last 16 will be an energetic Paraguay.

80,663 spectators were present at the stadium to watch the match, a large part of which were French fans. Captain Kylian Mbappe reflected their expectations. Despite attacking one after another in the first half, France could not find a goal. Two attempts by Mbappe and Michael Oliseh hit the post. However, just before the break, Mbappe found the net with a brilliant finish to give the team the desired lead.

Like the first half, the French were in complete control of the match in the second half. Sweden, who played a defensive strategy, could not compete with France in any aspect of possession or attack. Didier Deschamps’ team was ahead in all statistics of possession, shots on target and attacking edge.

In the 53rd minute, PSG winger Bradley Barcola doubled the lead from a perfect pass from Michael Olise. Then, in the 70th minute of the match, Mbappe scored his second and the team’s third goal from an assist from Olise, which ensured a big victory for France.
