Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) has said that fascist friends are behind the plot to disturb the Chittagong Hill Tracts by raising rape allegations and to destroy communal harmony by putting beards on demon faces at the autumn Durga Puja mandap.
The advisor made this comment while briefing journalists after the meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday (October 05, 2025) afternoon.
The advisor said that fascists and their associates sought to create religious discord, communal incitement and violence by putting beards on demon faces at several puja mandap. Some fascist intellectuals were also behind this incident. He said, the news of our chief advisor being presented in a derogatory manner during the making of a Durga Puja idol in a neighboring country is linked to the act of giving a beard to the face of a demon. He also said that the conspiracy of the evildoers has been foiled with the active role of the law enforcement agencies, strict surveillance of the intelligence agencies and the cooperation of everyone, including the cooperation of the Puja Mandap Committee formed to celebrate Durga Puja. Like last time, this time too, the Sharadiya Durga Puja was held across the country in a peaceful, safe, smooth and festive atmosphere.
Stating that legal action will be taken against those involved in the incident of giving a beard to the face of a demon in a Puja Mandap, Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said, this year, during the Sharadiya Durga Puja, beards were given to the face of a demon in 793 Puja Mandap across the country. Through this, an attempt has been made to destroy communal harmony. Those involved in these incidents are being identified and a general diary (GD) has been filed against them at the police station.
The Home Affairs Advisor said that in the rape incident, which has caused so much commotion in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, no evidence of rape was found in the medical report. He said that the incident was dealt with fairly and beautifully with the cooperation of the army and other law enforcement agencies and the general public in the hills. He said that the blockade and Section 144 have already been withdrawn in the hill areas.
Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor on the Ministry of Home Affairs Md. Khoda Bakhas Chowdhury, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Gani, IGP Baharul Alam and others were present at the briefing.
