Circular Economy in Bangladesh’s Garment Industry: BGMEA Successfully Completes Training Program

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), in collaboration with Circle Economy, BUTEX and with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the European Union, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland under the SWITCH2CE project, successfully hosted a Training of Trainers program under the SWITCH to Circular Economy Value Chains Project recently at the BGMEA Complex in Dhaka.

This intensive two-day training program brought together key stakeholders from the textile and garment sector to enhance their understanding of circularity, equipping them with the knowledge and tools required to drive the industry’s transition towards a circular economy.

The training covered essential topics, including the challenges of the linear economy, circular product design strategies, responsible material choices, and the evolving legislative landscape in the European Union and Bangladesh.

The sessions featured presentations from Circle Economy, BUTEX and industry leaders such as H&M, CYCLO, and Reversed Resources, alongside an insightful activity on developing bankable circular project proposals led by the Frankfurt Business School. Participants also gained a comprehensive understanding of recycling innovations and the broader economic, social, and environmental benefits of circular business models.

Following the training, a group of 20 participants visited the CYCLO facility on February 19 to witness firsthand how circularity principles are applied in practice.

Participants received a Certificate of Attendance from Circle Economy and UNIDO, recognizing their commitment to fostering sustainable and responsible manufacturing practices. This initiative aligns with BGMEA’s broader strategic sustainable vision 2030 by advancing towards circular fashion and promoting sustainable business practices across Bangladesh’s textile and garment industry.

BGMEA remains committed to facilitating knowledge-sharing and capacity-building programs that drive positive change for the sector and beyond.
