Chief Advisor urges Qatari businessmen to invest in Bangladesh

Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has urged Qatari businessmen to invest in Bangladesh.

He said, ‘Bangladesh has huge potential, you can seize this opportunity.’

At an event organized on Wednesday (April 23, 2025) night on “Bilateral Investment Opportunities Between Qatar and Bangladesh,” the Chief Advisor said, ‘Bangladesh is now back in business, and on a large scale. We want your partnership.’

The Chief Advisor said that the interim government has taken various steps to create an investment-friendly environment in the country and is committed to building a new corruption-free Bangladesh.

He narrated the inspiring story of how Norwegian telecom operator Telenor was inspired to set up a telephone company in Bangladesh, which later turned into Telenor’s most profitable venture.

Azad Ashraf, President of Bangladesh Forum, Qatar, delivered the welcome address at the event.

BIDA Executive Chairman Ashiq Chowdhury made a presentation to potential Qatari investors and expatriate Bangladeshis on investment opportunities in Bangladesh and the reform steps taken by the interim government.

“If you have ever considered Bangladesh as an investment destination, now is probably the best time,” he said.

Speaking at the event, Energy Advisor Fauzul Kabir Khan said that when the interim government took office, Bangladesh had an outstanding debt of US$3.2 billion in the power sector, which has now been reduced to US$600 million. Of this, $254 million was owed to Qatar Energy, which had been reduced to zero by Wednesday, he said.

He outlined the government’s plans for energy security and improved infrastructure.

Saleh Majed Al Khalafi, Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Qatar, Ali Ben Farz, Co-founder of Next Smart Solutions, and others also spoke at the event.

Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain was present.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar Nazrul Islam delivered the closing remarks.
