On Monday (May 18, 2026), the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Brazil to Bangladesh, Paulo Fernando Dias Feres, called on Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury at his office. The Minister welcomed the Ambassador and appreciated the growing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Brazil. The Ambassador congratulated the Minister on assuming his duties.

During the meeting, they expressed satisfaction over the steady expansion of bilateral trade, which has surpassed USD 3 billion, and underscored the importance of further strengthening cooperation in different sectors. The Ambassador highlighted the prospects of Bangladesh emerging as a regional business hub and noted the country’s significant potential in the South Asian region.

The Ambassador also conveyed Brazil’s interest in facilitating a high-level business delegation to Bangladesh to explore investment opportunities. In this context, discussions focused on cooperation in cattle rearing and meat processing, including the possibility of establishing joint venture enterprises in the meat processing industry. The Bangladesh side expressed interest in the transfer of modern livestock and farm management technologies and investments relevant to cattle rearing while safeguarding the interests of local farmers.

During the meeting, the prospects for expanding exchanges in the beef and poultry sector between the two countries, including issues related to Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) certification, were proposed by the Ambassador. The two sides acknowledged the considerable potential for enhanced collaboration in the livestock sector.

The Minister and the Ambassador also appreciated the finalisation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) on Health, Agriculture, and Sports cooperation between Bangladesh and Brazil and expressed hope that the instruments would be signed during the forthcoming Third Bilateral Consultation between the two countries.
