“Bangladesh-Nepal military cooperation has reached new heights”: Nepalese Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari

The 263rd Raising Day of the Nepalese Army was celebrated with due dignity on Friday (March 27, 2026) evening at the initiative of the Nepalese Embassy in Bangladesh. The event was attended by dignitaries from various diplomatic, military and civilian levels.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari said that this day commemorates an important chapter in Nepal’s history, which has taken the country forward on the path of becoming a sovereign, united and modern state. He referred to the Nepalese Army as a shining symbol of courage, unwavering devotion and service to the country. At the same time, he highlighted the growing progress of military cooperation between Bangladesh and Nepal and said that the friendly relations between the armed forces of the two countries have been further strengthened through regular exchanges, training cooperation, capacity building and joint exercises.

In his welcome address, Military Attaché Brigadier General Anjan Keshar Khatri highlighted the role of the Nepalese Army in protecting independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also highlighted the contribution of the army in national development, environmental conservation and combating natural disasters. He also mentioned the important role of the Nepalese Army in ensuring global peace and security through participation in UN peacekeeping missions.

Bangladesh Army Chief Waker-Uz-Zaman was present as the chief guest at the event. He praised the Nepalese Army as a ‘wall of defense’ in dealing with external threats as well as during natural disasters. He expressed satisfaction with the existing ‘strong and friendly’ relations between the armed forces of Bangladesh and Nepal and emphasized on strengthening this cooperation further in the future.

The event was attended by officials from various departments of the Bangladesh government, ambassadors and heads of missions of various countries posted in Dhaka, senior officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, defense attaches, business and civil society leaders, and representatives of the Nepali community living in Dhaka.
