Lacrosse was officially inaugurated for the first time in Bangladesh on the occasion of July Uprising Day. Sports personalities, administrative officials and guests from various levels were present at the official inauguration ceremony of Bangladesh Lacrosse Association at the Bangladesh Armed Police Battalion ground located in Uttara area of the capital.
Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Mohammad Ejaz was present as the chief guest at the ceremony. Mir Mostafizur Rahman, father of July warrior Shaheed Bir Mughda, was the special guest and inaugurator. In addition, Additional IGP of Bangladesh Armed Police Battalion Mr. Ali Hossain Fakir declared the auspicious start of the game.
Additional Police Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police Mr. Zahid Hasan was also present as a special guest.
The program was presided over by Bangladesh Lacrosse Association President, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Bangladesh Police Service Association President Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan.
The newly elected executive committee vice-presidents included MA Kafiluddin, Zahir Raihan, Dr. Shamim Ahmed, Md. Salauddin Chowdhury. General Secretary SM Imam Hossain Sohag, Joint Secretaries B. M Shahidul Islam and Shahidul Islam, Treasurer Faisal Hossain and members Advocate Nasrin Khandaker and Maksuda Chowdhury, including numerous guests and athletes, were present at the event.
The speakers said that lacrosse is an international standard game, which is new in Bangladesh but will soon gain popularity. They said that initiatives are being taken to spread the game at the district level. The speakers also expressed their hope that they would like to see the Bangladesh team participate in lacrosse in the 2028 Olympic Games.
At the end of the program, the guests distributed prizes to the winning teams participating in the game.
