Bangladesh and the United States agree to deepen bilateral partnership

Diplomatic Desk:

Bangladesh and the United States have expressed their hope to take bilateral relations to new heights by strengthening cooperation in all sectors in the coming years. At the same time, both sides have reiterated their commitment to further strengthen the long-term partnership.

This optimism was expressed during a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and US Ambassador to Dhaka Brent Christensen at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday (February 23, 2026). This information was given in a press release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting emphasized the long-term partnership between Bangladesh and the United States, which is built on mutual respect, shared democratic values, and a commitment to peace and development.

The discussions reviewed important areas of bilateral relations, including trade and investment, defense and security cooperation, development partnerships, migration, and people-to-people exchanges.

The possible visit of US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Paul Kapoor to Dhaka in early March was also discussed. The visit is seen as a reflection of the ongoing high-level engagement between the two countries.

The Rohingya issue was also discussed in detail during the meeting. The Foreign Minister expressed gratitude for the ongoing US humanitarian assistance to Bangladesh and sought continued US political support for the safe, voluntary, and sustainable repatriation of displaced Rohingyas to Myanmar.
