Algerian Embassy in Dhaka Commemorates 69th National Student Day, Calls for Stronger Educational Ties

The Embassy of Algeria in Bangladesh solemnly commemorated the 69th anniversary of Algeria’s National Student Day with a special event held in Dhaka, attended by students, journalists, distinguished guests, religious figures, and embassy staff.

Abdelouahab SAIDANI, Ambassador of Algeria to Bangladesh, delivered a moving speech reflecting on the historic events of May 19, 1956. On that day, “This was not just a symbolic gesture,” said Ambassador Saidani. “It was a patriotic act of sacrifice that helped strengthen the National Liberation Army and showed the world the unity and determination of the Algerian people.”

The event highlighted the lasting legacy of the students’ sacrifices and emphasized Algeria’s ongoing commitment to education as a cornerstone of national development. Ambassador Saidani noted that literacy rates have significantly improved and that the higher education sector in Algeria continues to expand.

The Ambassador also took the opportunity to address the Bangladeshi and Algerian students present, urging them to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of 1956 and to work toward deepening educational and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

“This historic student movement had an international impact. Today’s youth must honor it by contributing to stronger bilateral ties through inter-university cooperation and exchange programs,” he said.

The commemorative event served as a reminder of shared values between Algeria and Bangladesh, and reinforced the importance of youth empowerment, education, and solidarity in building a better future.

“Long live the memory of May 19, 1956. Long live Algeria. Long live Bangladesh,” the Ambassador concluded.
