Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin met with Algerian Ambassador Abdelouahab Saidani.
The meeting was held in the Trade Adviser’s office room at the Secretariat on Monday (May 26, 2025) afternoon.
In the meeting, they discussed in detail the development of bilateral relations and trade growth.
Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin said that both countries should utilize commercial opportunities to make their mutually friendly relations more sustainable. At this time, he called on Algeria to increase investment in Bangladesh.
He said that Bangladesh is the second largest jute producing country in the world. Jute and Bangladesh are considered synonymous in the world. During this time, he called on Algeria to import jute and traditional products from Bangladesh.
The Algerian ambassador stressed the importance of forming an Intergovernmental Joint Economic Commission to increase trade between the two countries. He said that there is a lot of demand for jute products in Algeria. Therefore, they are interested in importing jute products from Bangladesh. He called for showcasing Bangladeshi jute and traditional products at the expo to be held in Algeria.
Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Mahbubur Rahman, Director General (Africa Wing) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs BM Jamal Hossain and Additional Secretary Md. Abdur Rahim Khan were present at the time.
