Additional IGP (Additional Inspector General of Police) Barrister Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain has officially taken charge as the new head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police. He assumed charge at the CID headquarters in the capital on Wednesday (July 29).
Earlier, he was appointed as the head of CID through a notification issued by the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs on June 28, 2026. Before taking charge, he served as the Director of the National Security Intelligence Service (NSI) on deputation. While working in NSI, he was promoted to the post of Additional Inspector General of Police (Additional IGP).
Barrister Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain joined Bangladesh Police in 1995 as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) through the 15th BCS. In his career spanning nearly three decades, he has gained extensive experience in investigation, intelligence operations, training and administrative management by serving in various important units of the police with skill, professionalism and integrity.
He has served in various important positions related to training, research and curriculum development at Bangladesh Police Academy, Sharda. He has also served as Special Superintendent of Police at CID Headquarters, Chittagong and Comilla units. He has also successfully served as Superintendent of Police of Pirojpur and Chapainawabganj districts in field administration.
He has also gained rich work experience by serving in important positions in Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Police Headquarters and various units of Rajshahi, Barisal, Rangpur, Khulna and Dhaka Range.
During his academic career, he obtained a Master’s (MS) degree in Economics from Islamic University, Kushtia. He also completed his Bar-at-Law from City University of London, UK.
He has acquired special skills in modern policing, criminal investigation and forensics through participation in various professional training, workshops and international conferences at home and abroad. Notable training includes a forensic laboratory course in Malaysia, a special regional workshop in Pakistan and participation in the 10th INTERPA conference held in Turkey.
At the swearing-in ceremony, officials at various levels including the DIG, Additional DIG, Special Superintendent of Police, Additional Special Superintendent of Police of CID were present and congratulated the newly appointed CID chief.
