The Ministry of Home Affairs has formulated a set of action plans, including election training, to make the upcoming national elections free, fair, impartial and secure, said Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.).
The Adviser said this while briefing reporters after the meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday (October 12, 2025) afternoon.
The Adviser said that a clear action plan has been formulated in coordination with all the relevant agencies to make the upcoming national elections free, fair and impartial. To ensure a fair voting process, any person or group creating chaos will be identified and brought under the law and strict action will be taken against them. He said that instructions have been given to the Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, Upazila Executive Officers and OCs at the field level to work impartially. In addition, instructions have been given to ensure that law enforcement agencies and election officials do not commit any illegal acts. He also said that CCTV cameras will be installed in all risky polling stations and effective monitoring measures will be taken to ensure security in the upcoming national elections. In addition, adequate number of body-worn cameras are being arranged for law enforcement agencies and election officials. Patrols and intelligence surveillance of law enforcement agencies are being strengthened to prevent deterioration of the law and order situation.
Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said that steps have been taken to prevent those who held positions in the 2014, 2018 and 2024 national elections from being given as many responsibilities as possible in the upcoming elections. The advisor said that necessary measures have also been taken to prevent deterioration of the law and order situation in the upcoming national elections due to the delimitation of boundaries.
The Home Affairs Adviser said that the training of law enforcement agencies will be completed as soon as possible with a focus on the upcoming national elections. As you know, this training is ongoing. He said, to ensure flawless security in the elections, about 150,000 police members will be given election training. Three-day training will be held in 28 batches at 130 venues across the country (districts, metropolises and training institutions). The final (4th phase) training of the police for the elections began on October 5, 2025, and it is expected that the training of all batches will be completed on January 15, 2026. He also said that under the title of ‘Pre-Election Training’ for Ansar VDP members, a total of 585,000 people will be trained for approximately 45,000 polling stations at a rate of 13 people per center. Out of these, 135,000 people will be trained with weapons and 450,000 people will be trained without weapons. This training will be completed by mid-January. The advisor said that 33,000 members will be deployed in 1,100 BGB platoons in this election. Already, 60% of the election training has been completed. The BGB training is expected to be completed by December 31 this year. Moreover, about 80,000 armed forces personnel will be deployed in this election.
Responding to journalists’ questions about the Adviser’s safe exit, the advisor said, “Who wants what is his personal matter. All my sons and daughters are in the country. What will I do with the safe exit alone?” Regarding the accused army members being kept in the custody of the army for trial, he said, “Legal process will be followed in this case.”
