Mr. Joris van Bommel has assumed duties as the new Ambassador-designate at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Dhaka. He comes to Bangladesh with a wealth of experience in international development, trade, civil society, global education and diplomacy.
Ambassador-designate van Bommel previously served as Deputy Ambassador and Head of the Trade and Development Section at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Kenya. He was also Deputy Ambassador and Head of the Cooperation Section at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Uganda. He has served as Deputy Head of the Civil Society Division in the Social Development Department of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and on secondment to the World Bank’s Washington, DC-based Global Partnership for Education Secretariat.
During his career, he has held various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and the Netherlands Embassy in Mali. He has also worked with UNESCO in Paris and UNICEF in Burkina Faso.
The embassy said it extended its warmest congratulations to Ambassador-designate Joris van Bommel and looked forward to working together with various partners in Bangladesh to further strengthen the Netherlands-Bangladesh relations.
