Starlink officially launches in Bangladesh

US-based space technology company SpaceX’s satellite-based internet service ‘Starlink’ has officially launched in Bangladesh. Starlink is a high-speed satellite internet service operated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which will bring broadband-deprived areas of the country under internet coverage.

The launch of this groundbreaking service was announced at a press conference organized at a hotel in the capital on Friday (July 18) afternoon. Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Faiz Ahmed Tayyab, Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor to the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, said, “New horizons of digital inclusion have been opened with the launch of Starlink in Bangladesh.”

A high-level Starlink delegation from the United States was present at the time. The delegation was led by Starlink’s Vice President of Business Operations Lauren Dreyer and Director of International Strategy and Government Relations Richard Griffiths.

The ceremony was also attended by ICT Secretary Sheesh Haider Chowdhury (NDC), Press Secretary to the Principal Advisor Shafiqul Alam, Secretary of Posts and Telecommunications Department Zahirul Islam, Managing Director of BSCPLC Md. Aslam Hossain

A B2B agreement was signed between Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCL) and Starlink before the inauguration ceremony. The agreement was signed by BSCL Managing Director Imadur Rahman and Starlink Vice President Lauren Dreyer. Richard Griffiths and other officials were present.
