Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has called on the countrymen to ban plastic to prevent pollution and protect the environment.
He said, ‘Plastic is a poison to the environment. It is harmful not only to humans but also to all animals on earth. The number of people in the world is increasing every day, and in Bangladesh too, the use of plastic per capita is increasing. Let us decide from today, we will ban plastic.’

The Chief Adviser said this in his speech as the chief guest at the inauguration of the World Environment Day and Environment Fair 2025 and the National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2025 at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Center in the capital today, Wednesday (June 25, 2025).

Stressing the importance of environmental protection, Professor Yunus said, ‘To save life, we must save the environment.
We must refrain from destroying the environment. If we can prevent environmental disasters, we will be able to enjoy a beautiful world.”
He highlighted the need to stop using single-use plastic, stating that it is very harmful to the environment.
The Chief Advisor said that if every citizen of the country decides to avoid single-use plastic at least once a week, then it will be possible to gradually stop using plastic. Without such a decision, we cannot move forward on this difficult path.
He commented that it is necessary to stop not only polythene production but also polythene production to prevent pollution.
Professor Yunus said that without changes in daily life (lifestyle), overall environmental disaster is inevitable. He mentioned that the current young generation can play a leading role in environmental protection.

Later, the Chief Advisor inaugurated the tree plantation drive by planting a golden tree at the venue.
