The country’s economy is being strengthened by the knowledge and investment of expatriates: Information and Broadcasting Minister

Describing expatriate Bangladeshis as invaluable assets for the country, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan said that their knowledge, talent, wisdom and hard work are further strengthening the country’s economy. He called on expatriate Bangladeshis to come forward to contribute to the country’s development in the future.

The minister said these things when Councilor Shibli Alam, Civic Mayor of Tameside Council of Manchester, England, came to meet him at his office at the ministry on Sunday (April 19, 2026).

The minister said that England is the birthplace of democracy. Bangladeshis living there for a long time have been playing a positive role not only in economic activities but also in the democratic progress of the country.

During the meeting, Councilor Shibli Alam highly praised the empowerment of women in Bangladesh. He expressed hope that Bangladeshi women will move forward further in the future in various fields of society and the state, including economic development. He expressed his interest in working to protect the health of Bangladeshi women and establish their rights.

At the same time, both sides expressed their hope for further strengthening the relationship between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom.
