Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leaders hold meeting with National Consensus Commission

The National Consensus Commission wants to move towards creating a national charter as soon as possible. Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz made this comment.

Professor Ali Riaz made this comment at the beginning of the extended discussions between Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Consensus Commission at the LD Hall of the Parliament House in Dhaka today (May 18, 2025), according to a press release from the commission.

He said that the commission will conclude the initial stage of discussions with political parties in a day or two and start the second stage of discussions soon to create a national charter.

He believes that the second stage of discussions will be able to move towards consensus on all the issues on which there will be differences of opinion in the initial stage.

Stating that the opportunity for discussion has been created at the cost of a lot of blood and lives, Professor Ali Riaz, in his opening speech, also said that we have a responsibility towards those whose sacrifices have created this opportunity. This responsibility lies not only with the National Consensus Commission but also with all political forces, civil society and social forces of Bangladesh.

At that time, Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Md. Ayub Mia and Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Monir Haider were present as members of the commission.

The discussion, led by the Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, included the party’s acting secretary general Maulana ATM Masum, assistant secretary general Rafiqul Islam Khan, Hamidur Rahman Azad, Ehsan Mahbub Jobayer, and an 11-member delegation including Saiful Alam Khan Milon, Matiur Rahman Akand, Nurul Islam Bulbul, Mohammad Selim Uddin, lawyer Shishir Mohammad Monir and Sarkar Mohammad Mohiuddin.
