At a program organized at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in the capital on Thursday to mark the ‘Great May Day and National Occupational Health and Safety Day 2025’, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser to the Interim Government, emphasized on protecting the interests of workers and said, “It is not possible to build a new Bangladesh by leaving the workers in the previous state.”
In his speech as the chief guest at the program, Dr. Yunus said that the government’s priority is to quickly implement the recommendations of the Labor Reform Commission. He said, “Our first task is to start the journey with immediate actions according to the recommendations of the Labor Reform Commission. After that, each recommendation must be followed to the letter.”




May Day 2025 is being celebrated with the theme “Workers and employers united to build this country anew.” At the program organized to mark the day, the Chief Advisor handed over financial assistance checks to 5 worker families on behalf of the Workers’ Welfare Foundation.
The event was also addressed by Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain, Adviser to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, AHM Shafiquzzaman, Secretary to the Ministry, and Sultan Uddin Ahmed, Head of the Labour Reform Commission.

A video message by Gilbert F. Hangbo, Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), was also broadcast at the event.
