BNP agrees on 25 constitutional reform proposals: Salahuddin Ahmed

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said, ‘BNP agrees on 25 constitutional reform proposals given by the Reform Commission.’

Salahuddin Ahmed said this after a meeting with the National Consensus Commission on reforms on Thursday (April 17, 2025) afternoon.

He said, ‘We agree with 25 of the reform proposals and have given partial opinions on 25. We (BNP) have disagreements on the rest.’

The senior BNP leader said, ‘We will try to reach a consensus on the basic proposals made, starting from the constitutional proposals to the constitutional amendments. We will do what is logical. If necessary, we will sit again.’

Noting that opinions have been expressed on 89 points on the reform of the judiciary, he added, ‘Everything should be constitutional. We want the independence of the judiciary. The process should be constitutional.’

Salahuddin Ahmed said, ‘Most of the amendments have been made to the electoral system reform. NID, delimitation should be under the Election Commission.’

Earlier today, Thursday (April 17, 2025), a 5-member BNP delegation led by BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed participated in the meeting at around 10:45 am at the LD Hall of the Parliament House.

The 4-member BNP delegation included Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the party’s Standing Committee, Nazrul Islam Khan, Ismail Zabihullah, a member of the Chairperson’s Advisory Council, and Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal.
