IOM and Bangladesh Police Conduct Travel Document Examination Training for Immigration Officers

Earlier this year, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) – UN Migration in Bangladesh, in collaboration with the Special Branch (SB) of Bangladesh Police, successfully conducted three Travel Document Examination training sessions. A total of 85 immigration officers from major Border Control Points (BCPs), including Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, participated in these sessions.

The training was designed to equip officers with critical skills for detecting fraudulent travel documents and identifying imposters, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of immigration operations. SB trainers, who had previously undergone a Training of Trainers (ToT) program conducted by IOM in July 2024, led the sessions. This approach ensured the sustainability of knowledge transfer and skill development within the force.

Additionally, a trainer from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) facilitated specific sessions, sharing valuable insights on Canadian passport security features. This international collaboration provided immigration officers with a broader perspective on document security and fraud detection techniques.

This initiative is part of the project “Strengthened Border Management to Promote Cross-Border Mobility and Counter Transnational Crimes,” supported by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Government of Canada. Through such efforts, Bangladesh is strengthening its border security mechanisms while promoting safer and more efficient cross-border mobility.
