Ireland Ambassador paid his courtesy call on Foreign Adviser

The non-resident Ambassador of Ireland to Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Kevin Kelly paid his maiden courtesy call on Hon’ble Foreign Adviser, Mr. Md. Touhid Hossain on Monday (10 February, 2025) afternoon at the latter’s office.

The Irish Ambassador congratulated the Hon’ble Foreign Adviser on his new role and responsibility. Underscoring the student-led mass uprising of July-August 2024 as historic, he conveyed readiness of the Irish government in extending necessary cooperation to the Interim Government of Bangladesh. He lauded Bangladesh for sheltering the forcibly displaced Rohingyas and reaffirmed Irish support in pursuit of finding a sustainable solution to the crisis.

Thanking the Irish government for its intended support, the Hon’ble Adviser highlighted the reform initiatives of the Interim Government. He sought active participation of Ireland in the upcoming international conference on Rohingyas and called for appropriate international pressure on Myanmar for a durable solution in this regard, considering the context of present conflicting situation there. The Hon’ble Adviser also requested for facilitation of visas for the Bangladeshi students aspiring to pursue higher studies in Ireland.

Both sides also exchanged views on cooperation in trade including GSP+, development, media freedom, as well as next general elections in Bangladesh.
