The main aim of ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ is to arrest those who are trying to destabilize the country and bring them under the law, said Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Gani.
The Senior Secretary made this comment at a press briefing on ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat this Sunday (February 09, 2025) afternoon.
The Senior Secretary said, ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ is mainly led by the police force; the army is helping them. He said, after the fall of the dictatorial government through the student-people’s revolution six months ago, the army was deployed across the country to control the law and order situation in the country. At that time, our police force suffered several losses. They suffered moral and psychological losses, police stations were burned, which is why the army is deployed across the country ‘in aid to civil power’. He further said, while working in this situation, we have taken many plans. Many of them are ongoing and many are going to be implemented. One of them is ‘Operation Devil Hunt’.
The Home Secretary said, this operation will be jointly worked by all in a focused way. This operation will be carried out to control the attempt to destabilize the country. For this, the necessary measures will be taken in a legal manner. All the forces have been prepared and briefed for that. At the same time, their work is ongoing.
Nasimul Gani said, in terms of law enforcement, we will not be able to walk the way the law was implemented before. The work will have to be done with the spirit of the law. We want to build a good system keeping in mind the issue of human rights and the environment. We want that no more mirror houses are created. We are trying to leave a good environment for the future. In this context, a workshop is being organized with law enforcement agencies on February 11 with emphasis on human rights and the environment.
Regarding the current state of the police force, Nasimul Ghani said, “The countries in the world where revolutions have taken place have not kept the defeated forces. But we could not be so inhumane.” He said, “We wanted to reform the force. Some of the police have committed wrongdoings out of fear and pressure. Some who were die-hard have fled. Action is being taken against them.” He also said, “The morale of a force has been broken.” An attempt is being made to bring real reforms to the police. We want the police to stand up straight. For this, they are being actively counseled.”
