Elon Musk’s Starlink Seeks to Launch Ground Stations in Pakistan

Elon Musk’s satellite internet venture, Starlink, has taken a significant step toward entering the Pakistani market by registering as “Starlink Internet Services (Private) Limited” with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

To enable internet services through its low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network, the company has submitted applications to establish 2-3 ground stations within the country. These stations are expected to enhance connectivity, particularly in remote and underserved areas.

Currently, regulatory evaluations are in progress, with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other relevant authorities assessing the technical and legal requirements for Starlink’s operations. The company will need to adhere to the National Satellite Policy 2023 and the Pakistan Space Activities Rules 2024 before moving forward.

If granted approval, Starlink is poised to introduce high-speed satellite internet services across Pakistan, potentially transforming the digital landscape and bridging connectivity gaps in rural regions.

The development signals a major advancement in Pakistan’s internet infrastructure, with Starlink offering the promise of improved access and faster internet speeds for both individuals and businesses.
