Indian President Draupadi Murmu has congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on assuming office as President of Bangladesh. She expressed hope that Mirza Fakhrul will successfully complete his term.
In a congratulatory message on Friday (August 21, 2026), the President of India said, “I sincerely congratulate you on assuming office as the President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.”
Draupadi Murmu said that she is hopeful that Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s long experience in public life and political leadership will usher in a successful tenure in the service of the people of Bangladesh.
The President of India said that India and Bangladesh have a unique relationship. This relationship between the two countries is built on a history of common sacrifice, close cultural ties and warm friendship.
He further said that in recent times, bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh have been continuously expanding in various fields including energy, technology, communications, youth affairs, health and education.
Draupadi Murmu said, “I look forward to working with you to further strengthen the partnership between our two neighboring countries.”
In the concluding part of the congratulatory message, the President of India wished Bangladeshi President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir good health, happiness and successful discharge of his duties.
