Shah Rayed Chowdhury represented BGMEA at STAR Network board meeting in Cambodia

Shah Rayed Chowdhury, Director of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), represented Bangladesh at the Sustainable Textiles of the Asian Region (STAR) Network board meeting held in Cambodia on the global trade situation, sustainable production and decarbonization of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry, and the future of the industry.

The meeting, held in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, was attended by board members representing the member organizations of STAR Network. The meeting discussed the progress of the network’s ongoing activities, strategic priorities, regional cooperation and potential areas of future cooperation.

Shah Rayed Chowdhury, a board member of STAR Network, gave an important presentation at the meeting. In it, he highlighted the changing picture of the global trade and industry situation as well as discussed in detail the current status and prospects of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry.

In his presentation, he emphasized the recent positive changes in Bangladesh. Highlighting various post-election policy initiatives and government steps to create an industry-friendly environment, he said that improved logistics facilities and an easier environment for doing business can further accelerate the growth of the industry.

Shah Rayed Chowdhury also highlighted various initiatives of BGMEA for sustainable development and decarbonization of the Bangladeshi garment industry. He said that in addition to ensuring an environmentally friendly and responsible production system, the Bangladeshi garment industry is gradually moving towards a green and sustainable production system.

STAR Network or Sustainable Textiles of the Asian Region is a regional alliance of various organizations of ready-made garment producing countries in Asia. Garment manufacturing organizations of Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Myanmar, Pakistan and Vietnam are members of this network. One of the goals of this alliance is to encourage sustainable development, innovation and responsible growth in the textile and apparel industry. BGMEA is a member organization of this network.
