Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has chosen party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as the party’s presidential candidate.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced this decision at the beginning of the party’s standing committee meeting in the Cabinet Division room of the Prime Minister’s Office at the Secretariat on Thursday (August 13) afternoon. At that time, members of the party’s standing committee congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
During the meeting, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told reporters, “On behalf of BNP, I am happy to inform you that BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has become the presidential candidate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.”
He said that a while ago, the decision to make Mirza Fakhrul the party’s presidential candidate was announced in a meeting chaired by party chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Immediately after the presidential candidate was announced, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir resigned from the post of BNP Secretary General and the membership of the National Standing Committee, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also said.
The party’s Senior Joint Secretary General, Joint Secretary General, Chief Whip and Whips were present at the meeting of the Standing Committee.
