A key meeting was held between the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) to strengthen joint efforts to make Bangladesh’s business sector more resilient to climate change and disaster risks.
The meeting, held at the FBCCI office in Motijheel, Dhaka on Monday (August 3, 2026), was organized by the FBCCI Safety Council. Edwin M. Salanga, Program Lead, Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR) and Community-Based Adaptation (CBA) Program at ADPC’s Bangkok headquarters, participated in the meeting.
The meeting discussed in detail the further expansion of mutual cooperation in disaster preparedness, business continuity and resilience of the private sector under the Bangladesh Preparedness Partnership (BPP) Phase-3 program.
The ADPC delegation highly appreciated the various initiatives implemented by the FBCCI Safety Council under the Bangladesh Preparedness Partnership (BPP) Phase-2 program. They recognized the important contribution of these activities in disaster preparedness, business resilience and capacity building of the private sector. It is to be noted that all the activities of the Bangladesh Preparedness Partnership are being conducted under the leadership of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.
After the meeting, Edwin M. Salanga paid a courtesy call on FBCCI Administrator Md. Fazlul Haque. During the meeting, both sides emphasized the important role of the private sector in ensuring national economic stability and expressed their determination to further strengthen joint efforts to keep the supply chain functioning and deal with business risks during disasters.
Also present at the meeting were FBCCI Safety Council Advisor Brigadier General (Retd) Abu Naeem Md. Shahidullah, ADPC Bangladesh Country Head Dr. Mohammad Ahsan Ullah, FBCCI Safety Council Program Coordinator Md. Manjur Kader Khan, Capacity Building Specialist Md. Shakhawat Hossain, and Web Developer and IT Officer Md. Nimul Islam.
At the end of the meeting, both FBCCI and ADPC reaffirmed their commitment to continue their long-term partnership and coordinated efforts to build a disaster-resilient, adaptive, and sustainable private sector. Those concerned expressed hope that such collaborative initiatives will play an important role in moving Bangladesh’s economy towards a more stable, secure, and sustainable growth path.
