Biman Bangladesh resumes Dhaka-Narita direct flight after a long year

Desk Report:

Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ Dhaka-Narita direct flight has resumed after being closed for more than a year. The government hopes that the resumption of this route will further strengthen trade, investment, education, tourism and people-to-people contact between Bangladesh and Japan.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the Dhaka-Narita route held at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at midnight on Monday (July 27), Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam, MP, said that there is no question of closing this route in the future. She expressed hope that this time the route will be profitable. In addition to the inaugural flight, bookings for the return and subsequent flights have already been completed, which has created great enthusiasm among Bangladeshis living in Japan.

At the meet and greet event, the minister said, “Today’s Dhaka-Narita flight is the fruit of the joint efforts of all of us. I am very happy to implement the instructions of the Honorable Prime Minister.”

He further said that the resumption of Dhaka-Narita direct flight will further strengthen the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Japan and open new horizons for economic cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking at the event, State Minister for Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat, MP, said that this flight has been re-launched keeping in mind the convenience of about 45,000 Bangladeshi students, workers and migrants living in Japan. Considering the future demand, not only Boeing but also Airbus aircraft will be added to the aircraft fleet, so that the operations of this route can be further expanded.

Recalling the contribution of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, the State Minister said that in 1980, despite the shortage of aircraft, he launched the Dhaka-Narita route with the aim of further strengthening Bangladesh-Japan relations. Today, under the direction of Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, that flight was re-launched for passenger service again.

After the ceremony, the Minister and the State Minister exchanged greetings with the Japan-bound passengers and officially inaugurated the flight by cutting the ribbon.

It is worth noting that Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ direct Dhaka-Narita flight was discontinued on July 1, 2025, during the interim government. The inaugural flight BG-376 of this route, which was resumed after almost a year, departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for Narita International Airport in Japan at 2:25 am on Monday. The government hopes that the resumption of this route will further strengthen economic, commercial and people-to-people relations between Bangladesh and Japan.
