Prime Minister Tarique Rahman formally inaugurated the Bangladesh Army’s ‘Army Chief Election Board-2026’. He inaugurated the election board as the chief guest at a program organized at the Army Headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday (July 26, 2026) morning and delivered a directive speech.

In her speech, the Prime Minister recalled with deep respect the contribution of the great independence proclaimer, martyr President Ziaur Rahman, in the modernization and reorganization of the army. At the same time, she also paid deep respect to the martyrs who sacrificed themselves in the great Liberation War, war-wounded freedom fighters, members of the armed forces, and army members who lost their lives while performing their duties in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
She said that in order to build a professional, efficient and modern army, merit, professional qualifications, honesty, character strength, leadership qualities and discipline should be given utmost importance in promotion, rising above personal likes and dislikes or political considerations.

The Prime Minister also said that the Bangladesh Army has been playing a very important role in protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty, ensuring national security, maintaining internal peace and order, dealing with disasters and providing assistance to the civil administration. She sincerely thanked all the members of the force, including the Army Chief, for this contribution.
Earlier, upon her arrival at the Army Headquarters, the Prime Minister was welcomed by the Army Chief and the Chief of General Staff (CGS). The Army Chief expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for inaugurating the ‘Army Headquarters Election Board-2026’ by attending the ceremony.
After the ceremony, the Prime Minister took part in a photo session with the army officers and recorded her comments in the army’s inspector’s book.
