Lionel Messi’s Argentina secured a place in the quarterfinals of the World Cup after coming from two goals down to beat Egypt 3-2 in a stunning comeback. The reigning world champions scored three goals in just 11 minutes in the second half of the dramatic match held in Atlanta.
There was excitement from the start of the match. At one point, Egypt’s two-goal lead gave Argentina a big blow. When Egypt was dreaming of a historic victory with goals from Yasser Ibrahim and Mustafa Zico, Lionel Messi emerged on the field as the team’s savior.
Messi first missed a penalty at a crucial moment for Argentina. However, the world football superstar overcame that disappointment and equalized the match with his natural skill by scoring a goal. Earlier, Argentina paved the way for a comeback with Messi’s assist.
Towards the end of the match, Argentina took complete control in the final 11 minutes, including stoppage time. They kept the Egyptian defense busy with one attack after another, and finally snatched a dramatic victory.
With this victory, Argentina qualified for the last eight of the World Cup. Led by Messi, the team once again proved that their greatest strength is their mentality to fight until the last minute, even in difficult situations.
