JICA to continue cooperation in Bangladesh’s power and energy sectors

Diplomatic Desk:

Dr. Tanaka Akihiko, President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), paid a courtesy call on Mr. Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, Honorable Advisor on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources of Bangladesh.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the ongoing cooperation in the power and energy sectors of Bangladesh and various issues to further expand and strengthen the partnership between the two countries in the future.

In the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the long-standing trustful and strong partnership between Bangladesh and Japan. In addition, emphasis was placed on continuing joint efforts to ensure the country’s energy security, reliable power supply and achieve sustainable development.

The discussions included a fruitful exchange of views on the progress of Matarbari Power Plant, increasing the stability of the national power transmission system, rehabilitation of Karnaphuli Hydropower Plant, modernization of the gas sector and other important infrastructure development projects and future cooperation.

During the meeting, both sides expressed their hope that through mutual cooperation and exchange of experiences, Bangladesh and Japan will continue to work together to build a more stable, efficient, and sustainable energy system in the future.
