Germany knocked out of the World Cup after losing to Paraguay in a tiebreaker

Sports Desk:

Star-studded Germany crashed out of the World Cup after losing 4-3 to Paraguay in a dramatic tiebreaker. The last-32 match held in Foxborough ended in a 1-1 draw after regulation and extra time, so the match went to a tiebreaker.

For the first time in World Cup history, four-time world champions Germany were eliminated after losing in a penalty shootout.

Paraguay took the lead in the first half through Julio Enzo’s goal. The South American team held onto the lead just before the break until the start of the second half. However, in the 54th minute, Kai Havertz equalized for Germany. This was Havertz’s third goal in the current World Cup.

After that, both teams played desperately for victory, but no more goals were scored in regulation time. Jonathan Tah scored a goal in extra time, but it was disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

As a result, the match went to a tiebreaker. Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gil became the hero there. He stopped shots from Germany’s Kai Havertz and Nick Oltemed. Although Paraguay’s players also missed the opportunity to win twice.

In the end, Paraguay had a golden opportunity to win when Jonathan Tah’s shot went over the crossbar. Taking advantage of that opportunity, José Canale scored a perfect spot kick to give the team a 4-3 victory and confirm Paraguay’s place in the last 16.

Despite playing in the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time since 2014, Germany had to end the tournament with disappointment. On the other hand, Paraguay has secured a place in the next round by winning a historic victory after a great fight and overcoming nerves.
