Philippine Society in Bangladesh (PSB) celebrates 128th Independence Day in Dhaka with grand celebrations

The Philippine Society in Bangladesh (PSB) celebrated the 128th Independence Day of the Philippines with grand celebrations with the participation of the Filipino community living in Bangladesh. A large number of guests, including Filipino citizens residing in Bangladesh, diplomats, and representatives of various countries, participated in the event organized at a prestigious hotel in Dhaka on Friday (June 26, 2026).

President of the Philippine Society in Bangladesh (PSB) Kharen Samson delivered the welcome address at the event. She said that every Filipino living abroad is a representative of the dignity and culture of the country. Mutual cooperation, sympathy and unity among Filipinos working in Bangladesh have built a strong community. She said that independence is not just an achievement of the past, but also the practice of responsibility, courage and humanity in everyday life.

In a special interview with Business In Bangladesh Editor Engr. Mohammad Shajibul-al-Rajib on the sidelines of the event, Philippine Society in Bangladesh (PSB) President Kharen Samson urged the Bangladesh government to pay more attention to the safety of expatriate workers.

She said that She expects the government to be more attentive to all expatriate workers working in Bangladesh. She said that they feel safe in Bangladesh. However, it would be highly commendable if additional initiatives are taken to ensure the safety of every expatriate working here.

She also said that such an event not only enhances unity and harmony among overseas Filipinos, but also plays an important role in further consolidating cultural exchange, mutual understanding and bilateral friendship between the people of the Philippines and Bangladesh.

The event was attended by Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh Nina P. Cainglet as the chief guest. In her speech, she said that the independence of the Philippines is not only a glorious chapter in history, but also carries the responsibility of building the future as an independent and sovereign state. She said that this year’s theme “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan”—Freedom, Future, and History—calls upon the Filipino nation to build a safe, prosperous, and better future with the spirit of independence.

The ambassador also said that every Filipino living in Bangladesh is a representative of the friendship between the two countries. Their professional achievements, cultural activities, and humanitarian behavior are further strengthening the relationship between the Philippines and Bangladesh. She called for working together to further expand economic, cultural, and people-to-people contacts as the two countries mark the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.

The event featured captivating cultural performances showcasing the rich culture and heritage of the Philippines. The guests were mesmerized by the traditional Tinikling, Sayaw sa Bangko, and various folk dances and musical performances by Filipino artists.

An awards ceremony was held during the event, where Ambassador Nina P. Kinglet presented awards to the winners for their contributions in various fields.

Later, a colorful fashion show was held, where traditional costumes from different regions of the Philippines, including the Barong Tagalog, Baro’t Saya, as well as modern designs were presented. This performance, which was a wonderful combination of tradition and modernity, received wide appreciation from the audience.
