Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider paid a courtesy call and meeting with Opposition Leader of Bangladesh National Parliament Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, MP, at his office in Parliament House on Thursday (18 June 2026). He was accompanied by Political Counselor of Pakistan High Commission Kamran Dangal. The meeting was held in a very cordial, positive and cordial atmosphere.
The Pakistan High Commissioner said that they want to further advance bilateral relations with Bangladesh with a positive outlook. Bangladesh-Pakistan relations have been progressing in a positive direction in recent times. The volume of trade between the two countries has increased. Several visits by military and civilian officials have been held. Recently, a delegation of Bangladeshi academicians visited Pakistan and expressed satisfaction with the education system of Pakistan.
The High Commissioner also informed the Leader of the Opposition about the success of the Education Fair held in Dhaka last month. The High Commissioner said that Pakistan will provide scholarships to 500 Bangladeshi students in phases over the next five years. Already 74 have visited Pakistan. Work is underway to further enhance the exchange of talent between the universities of the two countries in the future. Hopes were expressed that the ongoing ‘Knowledge Corridor’ project would be further consolidated in the coming days.
The High Commissioner called for the formation of a parliamentary group and further strengthening the relations between the two countries at the parliamentary level. At one stage of the discussion, the Leader of the Opposition thanked the Government of Pakistan through the High Commissioner for Pakistan’s historic role in brokering the peace agreement between the United States and Iran.
The Leader of the Opposition’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Qasim Arman, MP, and Mr. Ali Ahmad Mabrur, Member of the Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee, were present in the meeting.
